Excedrin extra strength overdose, 20 pills am I in trouble health wise? what should i do?
I took about 20 pills....what should I do?
I'm absolutely not being dramatic here, nor am I trying to scare you. But, if you really took that many pills in a short amount of time, you need to get medical attention ASAP. I'm referring to either calling your family doctor NOW, or going to the ER. Excedrin contains acetaminophen, which is the same active ingredient that is in Tylenol. You're not going to die today or anything like that, but you need to get some tests quickly to check your liver function. Acetaminophen can cause liver damage in high doses, and you've taken way more than is safe. There is an antidote that if administered quickly can prevent liver damage from happening, and that's why you need to get attention quickly. If liver damage occurs, it will be permanent, as the liver cannot regenerate itself. You cannot live without a liver, so you need to prevent yours from becoming damaged.
Aside from the immediate medical concerns, you also need to address the reason why you took this amount of medication. If you were attempting to harm yourself, you may need to consider asking for some psychological help to deal with any troubles you're dealing with.
I can't stress enough the importance of you getting medical attention ASAP. This may not kill you today, and you may not even be having symptoms right now, but your liver could already becoming damaged. I hope you come through this okay, and that you can get healthy both physically and emotionally.
